Board of Directors

The following comprise our Board of Directors

Justin Simeone, Chairperson

Justin Simeone

Justin graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2008 with a BA in History (Honors) and Political Science (Honors). As a graduating senior with Phi Beta Kappa standing, he received: the Colgate W. Darden Jr. Award (Valedictorian); the Alumni Award for Scholarship, Leadership, and Service; and the Ann Elizabeth Fitschen Memorial Political Science Award. He was a 2008-2009 UK Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he completed a MSc in Politics and Government in the European Union, including a dissertation on the regional adjudication of immigration rights. Justin is currently a Ph.D. in Politics student at Princeton University, with concentrations in international relations, public law, and comparative politics. He enjoys traveling, volunteering, and playing soccer in his spare time.

Laurie Paguio

Laurie

Laurie graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in 2008 with a BS in Commerce and concentrations in marketing and information technology. After graduation she joined the SHH staff in El Progreso as a long-term volunteer, creating and directing the 2009 winter kid's camp and supporting Honduras-side operations of La Ceiba. Fluent in Spanish, she also assisted Executive Director Shin Fujiyama on an orphanage research trip through many parts of Honduras. After six months in Honduras, she joined global management consulting firm Accenture in Washington DC. As an analyst aligned to its Talent and Organization Performance service line, she works with clients to deliver human capital strategies that benefit a company's overall business and financial performance. Laurie enjoys traveling, playing tennis, reggaeton music, and bikram yoga.

Dr. Bob Azzarito

Bob

Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Bob graduated from Cal State University of Northridge with a B.A. in Political Science. He was drafted by the California Angels but gave up baseball to pursue further education. He holds a M.A. in history from Cal State University of Fullerton. He also received a M. Div. (Master of Divinity) – Theology from Talbot Theological Seminary. Additionally, he holds a D. Min. (Doctor of Ministry) from Regent College. He is currently the Campus Minister at the Campus Christian Community at UMW. He is also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. For the past twenty years he has led groups of students to various parts of the world believing that these trips have a huge impact on who we become.

Dr. Shawn Humphrey

Shawn Humphrey

Shawn Humphrey is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Mary Washington. He is also the founder and Executive Director of the Two Dollar Challenge and La Ceiba. He earned a BA in Economics from Earlham College, a MA in Economics from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a PhD in Economics from Washington University in Saint Louis.

Megan Coolidge, Student Director

Megan

Megan is a senior at the College of William and Mary, majoring in International Relations and Hispanic Studies. She became involved with SHH her freshman year and first went down to El Progreso in May 2007. Her experiences interning for SHH during the summer of 2008 and working with the La Ceiba team to develop the microfinance program have led her to pursue a career in development. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree in international development.
