Brasil Day at Copprome
November 15, 2007Yuko Lanham, Washington D.C., and Fabricio Murillo, Tela, Honduras volunteered their time and love for Capoeira at COPPROME home for children this past Saturday. Yuko is a long-time family friend of Shin and I. Fabricio is a Capoeira colleague of Yuko and recently moved to Honduras, his brith country after living in Alexandria, Virginia for the past nine years. Yuko is a movie producer and a documentarian. She is working to put a film together about Fabricio and his passion for Capoeira.
Through a series of planning e-mails back and forth, we were able to coordinate "Brasil Day" at Copprome on Nov 10, 2007. Yuko and Fab lead workshops for the older girls and younger children, sharing with them the history and footwork of this Afro-Brasilian martial art. read more »
Progreso Carnival
September 24, 2007This weekend, El Progreso celebrated its birthday in style.
Watch this video and see how more than 20 JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) volunteers, Shin and I participated in the much anticipated parade. The streets of El Progreso were filled with vendors, children, parents and elders. Shin and I were invited to ride in the volunteers on the Japan Float. By default, Shin and I were the narrators. At one point, we had the crowd cheering Japanese words like "konnichiwa" (hello) and "sayonara" (good-bye).
