Date: Jun. 3, 2008 – Aug. 6, 2008

Participants will coordinate various SHH projects based on their interest and skills and play a significant role in strengthening our initiatives as well as developing new projects themselves. These projects will be designed, executed and evaluated by the current volunteers during this period and built upon by the next group.

We are looking for highly proficient-fluent Spanish speakers with field experience to focus on the following projects:

1) Small business development at Villa Soleada
2) Education and Health program at Villa Soleada
3) English and Computer skills teaching at Copprome
4) Sustainability and Sponsorship Program for Copprome
5) Young Women’s Leadership Program and Transition Home for Copprome

The program commences with a full 10 day in-country orientation led by the directors of SHH. All interns and volunteers will be housed in the SHH House located in the center of town with walking proximity to the supermarket, movie store, pharmacies, gym, restaurants, clinics, and a soccer field. Wireless Internet is available in the SHH office and at Copprome Education Center.

Volunteers will be selected based on their level of Spanish, experience, and knowledge in the field.

A research component that thoroughly investigates and evaluates a topic or area of interest for the participant is also a vital part of the internship. Volunteers will work directly on the development projects in their areas of interest, finding creative ways to promote positive changes through their projects. Research findings may be demonstrated in the following forms: community survey, research paper, anthropological interviews and analysis, documentary or other media representations of work, etc. These findings will be published and shared through our SHH network and website as resources for further knowledge and experience.
