Sunshine Lady Foundation to Support SHH Women's Academy
On Monday, March 25, 2008, the Sunshine Lady Foundation announced its support for Students Helping Honduras in its effort to create a Women's Academy for some of Honduras' most talented and deserving young women. Specifically, Doris Buffet's foundation has challenged SHH members to raise the estimated $150,000 it will cost to fund the second, third, and fourth year of the Woman's Academy program. If they meet this goal by April 19, the Sunshine Lady Foundation will support all of the program's first year start-up costs, which SHH estimates will cost more than $52,000!
Doris Buffet's support has been an integral part of SHH's success over the past three years. Prior to the 2006 Walk for Hope, she challenged SHH with a 2:1 match grant, eventually donating more than $66,000 to help sustain what was then a very over-crowded Copprome Orphanage. Last year, she provided a $100,000 match grant to make the current home-construction project at Villa Soleada a reality. This year's grant will help fund both housing and college tuition fees for five upcoming graduates of Copprome Orphange.
This year's grant challenges SHH in more ways than one. As it approaches its third annual Walk for Hope on April 19, SHH must expand its network of dedicated supporters, by taking grassroots fundraising to the next level. It must also look expand its base of student supporters. This spring, nearly twenty colleges and universities, as well as many high schools, churches, and professional organizations, will be working to make dreams possible in Honduras. We hope you will consider joining us in our effort!
