SHH Gains 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Status

On May 22, 2007, Students Helping Honduras officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Though incorporated since February of 2006, SHH had been working for more than a year with the Internal Revenue Service to achieve this important status. For our donors, this means that all donations made to SHH—both past and future—are tax-deductible. It also guarantees that SHH will continue to meet many high organizational standards, including assurances that: all earnings will be used in accordance with our organization’s purpose, no part of our net earnings will inure to the benefit of an individual, none of our advocacy will be used for political purposes, and all of our annual transactions will be open to government and public scrutiny. SHH feels that this step, while seemingly small, will be very important in our continuing effort to create change in Honduras.
