Boston

Taylor and I spent the entire week in Boston visiting Boston College, Boston University, Suffolk University, Brandeis University, Tufts University, Wellesley College, and Emerson College. We talked to many students who are excited to start up chapters in the region – we had a cup of coffee during each meeting which probably didn’t help us fall asleep at night. Up in the Boston area, there seems to be a college or university on every corner. Despite the number of college students, we had a hard time finding cafes with free WiFi even with our GPS. I found that very strange, and missed the likes of Hyperion Cafe in Fredericksburg.

The chapter at BU had a huge bake sale ready for us on Friday. For all three of the members (Nadia, Danielle, and Shira) it was their first SHH fundraising event they had organized, since the founding members of the chapter there are both abroad. They did such a great job and sold out within half of the time we had planned for. I sneaked a vanilla cup cake when they weren’t looking but dropped a dollar in the bucket of course.

I wanted to send special thanks for Sarah, Doug, John, JK, Anna and Taylor for taking us in to their homes to offer us their couches to sleep on. We’ve been moving around every night, and someone asked us if we were gypsies. I love being able to meet so many people, and although we usually don’t know where we are going to sleep or shower he following week, it seems to always work out thanks to kind people like them. This week, Taylor and I are in NYC and New Jersey, moving our way south to North Carolina.
