Most items on this list are explained in greater detail in this packet. This will just serve as a checklist to make your preparation easier.
Required Steps:
- Register for your trip by paying your deposit. Registration forms for our various trips are located on the Trip Registration Page (http://www.studentshelpinghonduras.org/trips)
- Mail a check (no cash please) for the remainder of your trip payment balance with your full name and trip ID (i.e. WINTER III) on memo line to:
SHH Trips
1213 Dandridge St.
Fredericksburg, VA 22401
- Purchase a flight to Honduras on the EXACT DATES of your trip. If you come a day early, you are responsible for extra costs incurred in hotel and meals fees. We recommend arriving before 3:00pm if possible on the first day of the trip in order to relax for your action-packed week. Click here for more information on our airport pickup policy.
- Give us your flight information by filling out this form. This is very important!
- Make sure your passport does not expire for at least 6 more months. If it does, you will need to renew it.
- Make at least 3 copies of your passport. Give one to your emergency contact, give one to SHH Staff upon arrival, and carry one with you at all times while in Honduras.
Other Important/Smart Things to do
- Call your credit card company and inform them that you’ll be leaving the country. They may freeze your account if you try to use your card in Honduras.
- ATMs will be your main way of getting money in Honduras. Make sure your ATM card will work for you abroad.
- Get recommended immunizations (more details in health and safety information section)
- Get traveler’s insurance if your insurance doesn’t cover you while on your trip.
- If you're willing to pay the "second bag fee," fill a suitcase full of donations.
- Use packing list to pack light, but be prepared.
- Print out two copies of the carry-on emergency contact card. Keep one in your wallet. This will allow you to reach us if you should get separated from the group. Give the other copy to a family member so they can reach us/you in case of emergency.
